Reflection 2

In the course of this class, I have learned a valuable lesson.... the Internet does not and should not replace a need and love for a library. Sure you can find a lot of the same information online that you can find in a book, but where is the interaction of a human being on the Internet. Half of the learning is the road it takes to get to the answer and the people you will meet in the process. Nothing can replace the way a human being can make you feel. With that said, no I do not think the Internet should ever replace the need of a library. You can't get lost in a good story on the Internet the way you can in a book. The Internet doesn't have the old worn smell to it. I think my view on the library has changed in the course of this library because I never gave them much thought, they were just another building, but now I have relearned the joys that the library can bring a person, the same feelings I felt as a child, they are fresh inside again. I will admit the Internet does still play a big role in my life, but not at the expense of the library anymore.

I agree 100%. I have actually spent more time in the library this past year than I have in the past 10 years. I have received invaluable help from different librarians. Even with the knowledge that we can access 24-hour assistance from an "online librarian," it's just not the same as have that one-on-one personal interaction. We need to support our libraries!

*smiles* wow, thats an inspiring post! you are right, the internet certainly doesn't give you the feel of being in a building full of knowledge. i particularly like visiting the large academic libraries and feel the knowledge oozing from the walls from the years of learning.
