Blog reflection 1

I must say that this course has been nothing that I expected. it is more hands on and I actually am learning things that are new and fun. the things I have learned from this (blogging) to how to research subject headings have become valuable tools that i know i will use now and in the future. This is my first online course that has been this creative. I am enjoying this course immensely. I like the structure and how the assignments force you to learn what you are reading. I don't have any dislikes about the course only that I don't have the time to thoroughly enjoy it the way I should. I don't think I have had any a-ha moments yet, just a few "oh?!" and "Wow, did I just do that?" moments.

Project 1: Library Visit

The library I visited for this assignment and in general as a family is the Ruth "Bach" library. This library is in the Heartwell Park, on the corner of Bellflower and Carson St ( Ruth Bach Neighborhood Library 4055 Bellflower Blvd. 90808(562) 570-1038). It is probably one of the smaller libraries in the city of Long entirely might not have all the bells and whistles that some libraries offer, but I like it because it is right across the street, and although it is small, it offers everything I ( as well as my family) look for in a library. The main library is in all one room, with a small reference room off the children's section. It also has another room off the hall where the restrooms are at. I feel the library made good use out of the small space they have to work with. There is plenty of seating, both tables and small sofa's. This library also has great nature light, because of the huge floor to ceiling windows that cover almost a full wall, plus the children's section has great bay windows that open up to the park.

They have a nice selection of new and up to date books, and if they do not have the book at their library they are always great about getting the book from another library ( if available) within a few days. They have 4 computers for the public to use, and I like that they have them in the open, where the workers can easily moderator what people are doing and or looking at.

Bach library offers many of the same things that the larger libraries in the city offer. You can check out videos for a small daily fee, most of them appeared to be children shows. They have a nice selection of fiction, non fiction, romance, self help, cook books, mystery and autobiography. They have a smaller selection on the back corner wall, where they hold their "new" and best seller books. By most libraries standards it is small, but they appear to be holding their own, considering on any given day it has a nice amount of people attending it.

Some services this library offer are Toddler and Preschool story times, as well as a Summer Reading program for children to partake in. They are a wonderful library that generally seem enthused when children walk through their doors, always very welcoming.
Ruth "Bach" library runs off the Dewey system when it comes to classification. I am sure there should be something I don't like about this library, but there isn't. I enjoy walking with my family to this library after we have spent an afternoon in the park. I like that it is small, and inviting, almost family like. The people who work there are friendly, and encouraging. I guess if I had to pick one thing that I would like to see changed, it would be a bigger selection of new books, but I also know that the size of the library is gentility the reason for them lacking in this area, funding plays a huge part in this.

Hello World!

Leave it to one of my college courses to finally get me to blog. I never thought I would be one of the bloggers out there in the world, but an assignment is an assignment. Setting this blog up was a pretty painless ordeal, didn't take more than a few seconds, and look at me, a blogger!!!

Before this assignment I will admit I knew nothing about blogging, except that my wife as one, this is more her thing. So I guess that would be my only blog I can share.....

Enjoy!
